2011-2012 Season in Review
The wrestling program had another
successful season. The youth and middle school program currently have 120
wrestlers and the high school team ended with 28 wrestlers. We are definitely
making a positive impact on the Baraboo community by providing a well-
structured program that teaches dedication, integrity, unity, and hard work to
so many of Baraboo’s youth. These life lessons are something we want our
wrestlers to use throughout their lives. In terms of wins and losses, we also experience success at all levels. In the youth and middle school program, we qualified 11 wrestlers to the state tournament with five wrestlers placing in the top six. Two individuals: Spencer Payne and Carlos Chavez, reached the ultimate goal of winning a youth state championship. We also had a large number of wrestlers compete in national level tournaments. Zach Raymond won the “Domination of the Dells.” John Gunderson was runner-up, Hermes Duran was 7th, and Zach Raymond was 6th at USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals. Baraboo has not had this level of success at the youth level in sometime. This is a good indication we are improving as a program.
The high school also experience success. We won the Richland Center Tournament and had the highest Bi-State placement in 10 years, we placed 6th out of 19 Division I teams and 10th out of 55 teams overall. Adair Ebright won an individual title at 182. The last Baraboo Bi-State champion was Gilbert Chavez in 2003. The varsity finish in the middle of the pack in a very competitive Badger North with a 4th place finish. The tradition of qualifying wrestlers to the individual state tournament was carried on by Adair Ebright and Dakota Daniels each were sectional runner-up.
I feel the wrestling program is providing a protective factor for Baraboo’s youth, which is key for a healthy development and a successful life. I feel the program is very fortunate to have so many positive people involved at all levels in the coaching and organizing and also acting as role models to our wrestlers. In addition, because of your financial support, we are providing our wrestlers with the necessary experiences and creating an environment to be successful on and off the mat even during this difficult economic time. Again, thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
